Scholarships and Grants Available for MLA Annual 2022

2022 Diversity Scholarship Two diversity scholarships are being offered this year for students from under-represented groups to pursue their master’s degree in library and information science. Here’s some more information: https://www.musiclibraryassoc.org/page/DiversityScholarship
To apply, send the following materials to Sara Manus, Chair of MLA Diversity Scholarship Award Committee: sara.manus@vanderbilt.edu

  • Personal statement (750 words or fewer) summarizing your musical background and interest in music librarianship
  • Curriculum Vitae or resume
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Proof of students status upon enrollment in a MLIS/MLS program (ex: enrollment verification from student online account/email from graduate advisor/copy of term bill/course enrollment/etc.)

Winners receive:

  • A tuition stipend of $3000
  • Career guidance provided by the MLA Career Advisory Service
  • 1 year student membership and registration in MLA and the MLA annual conference
  • Committee recommendation for the MLA Kevin Freeman Travel Grant 

Kevin Freeman Travel Grant As the name suggests, the Kevin Freeman Travel Grant is intended to support travel and hotel expenses to attend the Music Library Association annual meeting. Here’s some more information: https://www.musiclibraryassoc.org/page/FreemanGrant
To apply you must be a regular, paraprofessional, or student member of MLA and either

  • in the first three years of your career
  • a graduate library school student aspiring to become a music librarian, or
  • a recent graduate (within one year of degree) of a graduate program in librarianship seeking a professional position as a music librarian

Recipients will be notified in early November and publicly announced at the MLA 2022 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, UT.
